Stone Three’s legacy in the mining sector (see more about Stone Three Mining) began with De Beers and Anglo Platinum, when we were asked to research innovative new ways in which technology could be used to solve well-known operational challenges in the mining sector.
As a result, Stone Three has accrued over 100 man years of work, building smart sensors for the mining industry, over the last 15 years. The work we conducted gave rise to a number of smart sensor products for operational mining environments.
When Anglo Platinum explained that it required these products to be supplied, supported and developed on an ongoing basis, we created a new division, Stone Three Mining, to absorb the additional work, and to commercialise these and related products.
In a relatively short period of less than three years, the Stone Three Mining division has sold products to a number of mining industry players, including Anglo Platinum, Anglo American, Kumba Iron Ore, African Rainbow Minerals, Sasol, First Quantum Minerals and Assmang.
Smart sensor products that have been commercialised to-date are:
Lynxx Particle Size Analyser: A robust, reliable industrialised Machine Vision system that determines the particle size distribution (PSD) of bulk material such as mineral ore and coal on a conveyor belt. Its continuous, real-time, non-intrusive operation removes the inconvenience and cost of labour-intensive methods of ore size measurement.
Froth Sensor: A camera and laser-based system that measures the height and velocity of froth in flotation cells.
Bubble Sizer: The Anglo Platinum Bubble Sizer is a portable turn-key solution for acquiring information on the size and distribution of bubbles in flotation cells.
Belt Analyser: An automatic camera-based conveyor belt inspection tool.
Volumetric Material Analyser: A 3D laser scanner that measures volume flow of bulk materials on a conveyor belt in real time.
In addition to these products, we specialise in creating custom Machine Vision solutions for challenging process measurement or monitoring applications on beneficiation plants.
